Rules of the Game

These are the Rules and Regulations governing play in Mafia. Failure to play within these rules will result in disqualification or worse...the game being stopped altogether. Seriously, the administration isn't happy about this game happening anyway so please follow the rules and don't give them a reason to cancel it like they did last year.

1. Each gang will have one boss and seven henchmen to begin the preliminary round.

2. Gangs must complete registration by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012.

3. Only trigger pump squirt guns provided by Programming Board will be used as methods of "elimination." Use of electric or pressurized squirt guns, paint guns, pellet guns, dart, safety dart, disc guns, BB guns, tranquilizer guns, any firearms or any weapon accept for the squirt gun provided for game play will result in disqualification and/or possible disciplinary or legal action. Programming Board takes no responsibility.

4. Henchman and Bosses may be eliminated by any registered player at anytime, provided that they are in a legal area, an elimination is defined as someone being shot by a squirt of water.

5. The Godfather may not be eliminated, EVER.

6. Shooting people who are not involved in the game may result in loss of points or disqualification at The Godfather’s discretion. Anyone holding a squirt gun may be shot. Non-participants may not shoot mafia game participants.

7. Henchmen receive 1 point for eliminating another henchman, and 3 points for eliminating another boss.

8. A Boss receives 3 points for eliminating henchmen, and 5 points for eliminating another boss.

9. If the boss is eliminated the henchmen may elect a new boss from within their own team. The Godfather must be notified within 8 hours with the name of the new boss.

10. Betrayals, eliminating members of one’s own team, are permitted but will result in zero points.

11. Suicides, eliminating yourself from the game, are permitted but will result in zero points.

12. Participants must carry their elimination ID card at all times. Failure to do so may result in loss of points or disqualification.

13. When a participant is eliminated, they must surrender their ID to the person who eliminates them.

14. When a participant is eliminated, the ID must be signed by the person who shoots them, the victim, and a witness, and dated with the time and place. The ID(s) must be turned in to The Godfather through the Programming Board Mail Box located in the SAC in a sealed envelope with the name of the team making the eliminations written clearly on the outside. The ID must be turned in within 24 hours of the elimination.

15. If there is really no one present to witness the event, please email the Godfather relevant information including full name of victim, their team name, time, place etc. The elimination card must still be turned in to the SAC PB mailbox.

16. Descriptions of eliminations by both the victim’s gang and the eliminator’s gang may be sent to pbgodfather@gmail.com. Accounts written and left in the envelope will not be posted on the internet.

17. The Godfather will communicate with the gangs through emails, blog posts, and our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oxy-Mafia-2012/345858422114315?notif_t=fbpage_fan_invite)

18. Eliminations may not take place inside ANY BUILDING on campus. This includes the Marketplace (including Branca Patio), classroom buildings, the library, the chapel, or at any public event (speakers, club events, sports team practices, et al. The goal is to not disrupt other Oxy campus organizations) — the athletic buildings, the Tiger cooler, the marketplace, DORMS etc. In Rangeview, the courtyard will be considered an indoor residence space, as is the parking garage. Balconies on buildings are also considered off-limits. Additionally, the area immediately surrounding the 2nd floor of Coons is off limits as there is a danger of breaking the glass. You may stalk victims through any building, but no guns may be pulled or used in buildings. Participants may NOT be forcibly removed from buildings. Excessive violations of this rule will result in the leaking of your identity to all other teams and possible disqualification. Entryways to public events and the defined buildings are also not permissible areas for elimination.

19. Furthermore, NO ELIMINATIONS MAY BE MADE AT OFFICIAL OXY EVENTS. This includes, movie showings, club meetings, sports/club practices and games, classes etc. So for example, if someone is running on the track for their sport they may not be shot during that period. The immediate entrances to these events is also bound by this rule. By all means feel free to eliminate people as they come and go from these official events as long as they are away from the immediate entrances/exits. In fact, those are opportune times to do so.

20. When a participant is collecting an elimination card from someone they have just terminated, they may not be shot. There are no exceptions to this rule. Once the elimination card has been collected and signed, the participant must be allowed a 30 second window in which to make their escape. This is also a reminder that there must be a witness present to sign an elimination card before it is turned over.

21. All henchmen and bosses are responsible for checking their e-mail and receiving all pertinent gaming information.

22. Participants cannot disguise their identity by wearing a mask etc.

23. Participants may only use one gun at a time, and must be those distributed by Programming Board to your team.

24. All forms of complaints regarding fair play or other may be sent to The Godfather at pbgodfather@gmail.com. Repeated neglect of rules will be taken seriously by the Godfather and could lead to players or entire teams being eliminated from the
remainder of the game and possibly future games.

25. Participants are held liable for injuries (e.g. from running and climbing) they may incur while playing Mafia.

26. Participants may need to sign waivers in person (we will contact you if this is necessary).
